Improving Health Quality Together with Patients, Families & Communities

It Takes the Voices of Everyone to Create Healthy, Vibrant Communities Where Care is Better.

Patients, families, communities and providers are at the heart of a high-quality, sustainable health care system. Health Quality BC prioritizes their voices in every area of care, ensuring that those impacted by decisions are heard and included. By asking, listening and working together, we can create healthier, more vibrant communities with better care for all.

Working together keeps people healthier, improves satisfaction and maximizes resources

By uniting diverse talents and ideas, we strengthen health care. When everyone has a role, it can lead to:

  • Better health outcomes
  • Cultural safety and humility
  • Improved patient care
  • Increased trust

Communities possess a wealth of knowledge and experience that, when combined with the expertise of health care professionals, can lead to truly transformative outcomes.

Stronger partnerships Lead to smarter solutions

As part of HQBC’s mandate to “identify and promote local, regional and provincial opportunities for engaging the patient perspective in health care transformation,” we have been working since 2010 to ensure the voices of patients, families and communities are heard. As part of this, we administer the Patient Voices Network (PVN), a virtual community of patients, families and caregivers that works with health care partners to improve BC’s health care system.

This work means there’s no need to reinvent the wheel—over the years, Health Quality BC has developed the tools, resources, experience and education to help you build your skills, connect with others and stay informed about what’s happening in BC. Whether you’re part of a health care team, patient or community member, you’ll find what you need, when you need it, here.

Community Conversations Lead to Proactive Partnerships for Better Health – The BRAID Model

Information is power. When co-produced with communities based on what matters most to them, it becomes a catalyst for meaningful change. By shaping decisions together, we can strengthen health care for everyone.

Health care organizations, patients and communities are eager to improve these conversations. That’s why Health Quality BC is launching BRAID (Bridging Research, Accurate Information, and Dialogue), a proven community engagement model. BRAID fosters open discussions on complex health topics, ensuring everyone has the knowledge and support they need to make informed choices.

Patient Voices Network

When patients, families and health care partners work together, they exchange ideas, gain new insights and make more informed decisions—leading to better patient experiences, improved safety, stronger health outcomes, and even lower costs. The Patient Voices Network (PVN) brings together patients, families and caregivers to collaborate with health care partners and drive meaningful improvements in BC’s health system.

What Matters to You?

Patients are the true experts on their own needs and experiences, making asking, listening and responding essential to person-centred care. That’s why we support ‘What Matters to You?’ in BC, offering resources co-developed with the Patient Voices Network and health organizations across the province. We encourage health care providers to have ‘What Matters to You?’ conversations every day with the people they support and care for.
