Role Summary
Health Quality BC provides system-wide leadership to efforts designed to improve the quality of health care in British Columbia. Through collaborative partnerships with health authorities, patients, and those working within the health care system, we promote and inform a provincially-coordinated, patient-centred approach to quality.
This internship provides an opportunity for a motivated post-secondary student to contribute to Northern Health’s priority project focused on improving service order processes to enhance patient access and waitlist management. The intern will support Northern Health Authority’s interprofessional teams in identifying and addressing barriers in the service order management system. This work will contribute to increasing the accuracy and reliability of waitlist data, ultimately improving patient access to primary care services.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist in developing a detailed project plan and timeline.
- Design and administer surveys and interviews to gather data from interprofessional team members.
- Collect and analyze data to identify patterns, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to strategy development by supporting brainstorming sessions and documenting proposed interventions.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials and reports for key stakeholders, including Northern Health senior leadership.
- Maintain project documentation, meeting notes, and records of findings.
- Participate in evaluation and debrief sessions at the end of the project.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to collect, analyze, and report on qualitative and quantitative data.
- Basic knowledge of the health care system.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
You must be a current post-secondary student and located in British Columbia for the duration of the internship program (May 5 – August 22, 2025).
Preferred:
- Knowledge of project management principles.
- Experience conducting surveys or interviews.
- Understanding of data visualization and reporting techniques.
- Interest in health system improvement and patient access initiatives.
Additional Information:
- This position is fully remote, but the intern may be required to attend virtual meetings at scheduled times.
- The successful candidate must have access to a personal laptop or desktop computer with strong internet connection for virtual meetings and remote work.
