Ainsley Young

Director, Learning & Capability Development


Ainsley joined Health Quality BC in August 2024. Ainsley brings her deep commitment to quality improvement and safety to her role as Director, Learning and Capability Development at HQBC. Alongside the wonderful learning team, Ainsley focuses on helping health care team members build their skills and confidence for quality improvement and support the overall mandate of HQBC. Ainsley has a wealth of experience within the BC health care system, having most recently served as Executive Director of Operations at SWITCH BC, where she played a key role in establishing  the organization’s foundational operations and achieving its strategic objectives, all aimed at improving the safety and well-being of people working in health care in BC.

Previously, Ainsley held various leadership positions at Island Health, including Director of Patient Safety and the Patient Care Quality Office. In these roles, she spearheaded patient safety strategies and safety reporting processes, fostering a culture of safety and psychological wellbeing across Vancouver Island. Ainsley’s leadership extends to policy development, strategic framework design, education, curriculum development, and quality improvement coaching, always striving to enhance care experiences and outcomes for care teams, patients, and families.

Ainsley is driven by her core value of service to others and is passionate about cultivating compassionate and resilient systems grounded in safety science and quality improvement. A proud graduate of Quality Academy, she has received extensive training from HQBC and loves being able to give back by building the capability of others.

Ainsley holds a Master of Health Administration from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, reading, spending time with loved ones, and doting on her rescue pup, Scout.
