Ian Warbrick

Ian currently works as a staff Internist at West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni, serving the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Ian has an interest in epidemiological research with a specific focus on the crucial role that community support and access to services play in a population’s determinants of health.

Ian fills multiple leadership roles in the community and profession, including being a core pod lead with RCCbc, leading a community engagement initiative with RCCbc and the Central Island Division of Family practice focusing on reconciliation and joining the UBC CPD advisory committee. Ian represented the local Medical Staff Association to Island Health in the introduction of a new EMR and established a specialist outreach clinic with the Nuu Chah Nuulth Tribal Council – to provide at home specialist care to remote West Coast First Nations. He is also currently the local physician lead in a project which focuses on highlighting the importance of lifestyle in living with diabetes. He is continually working to make positive change in his community and advocate for rural health practitioners.

Ian obtained his Medical degree from the University of British Columbia, specializing in Internal Medicine. Ian has a passion for the outdoors and all the recreation offered by the Alberni Valley, and is honoured to live and work in the traditional territories of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth peoples, more specifically, the Tseshaht and Hupacasath Nations.
