Ilona Hale

Fellow

Ilona is a rural family physician, Clinical Assistant Professor with the UBC Department of Family Practice, clinical researcher and director of the UBC Rural Scholar Program. She lives with her husband, Dave, in a net zero home on a biointensive organic farm near Kimberley, BC on the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa people. Her passion for the environment stems from her love of nature and concern for the future of her two young adult sons and the generations to follow. Combining this with her interest in improving quality of care, she is focusing on ways to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare. She has recently led the production of a national guide to Planetary Health in Primary Care and is also working on incorporating environmental sustainability into quality improvement.
