Interim Director, Learning & Capability Development

Jaclyn started at Health Quality BC in January 2025 as the Interim Director of Learning and Capability Development. Alongside the Learning team, Jaclyn’s work advances HQBC’s mandate to equip health care teams to build their skills and confidence for quality improvement and to promote a culture of safety and improvement in the BC health care system.

Jaclyn holds a Master of Health Informatics from the University of Victoria and has over 10 years of experience in health care. She joined HQBC on a secondment from Island Health, where she was the Manager Patient Safety. In this role, she led efforts to build strategic frameworks, accountability structures and patient safety curriculum, while identifying systems-level improvement opportunities following instances of healthcare harm. She is passionate about creating safe psychological spaces that cultivate empathy, foster self reflection and support care teams and patient/families to move from harm to healing. Jaclyn is an alumnus of HQBC’s Quality Academy program, has a keen interest in healthcare ethics and is committed to continuous learning/unlearning and growth toward cultural safety and humility.

As a third-generation settler of European descent, Jaclyn is privileged to live and work on the traditional and ancestral territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich), lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees) and Wyomilth (Esquimalt) peoples of the Coast Salish Nation. She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from colleagues at Health Quality BC and will be providing maternity leave coverage for Ainsley Young, who is expected to return in January 2026.

Outside of work, Jaclyn can be found running/hiking the local trails of southern Vancouver Island, playing soccer, listening to audiobooks, homesteading, beach combing and soaking up time with her family, including her husband and two daughters.
