Program Assistant, Health System Improvement

Rachel Shin joined Health Quality BC in June 2023 as the Program Assistant for the Health System Improvement team. She supports programs and projects for Team-Based Care BC, Type 2 Diabetes Network, Community Action Teams (CATs), and Long-Term Care. She is grateful for the opportunity to contribute in ongoing efforts to improve health care quality and system improvement for the safety and wellbeing of British Columbians.

Rachel holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia with a disciplinary focus on biomedical and health sciences (Immunology, Pathology, Public Health). She has previously supported a quality improvement project at BC Cancer Agency and provided support in health care settings, including Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacy and UBC Hospital (Multiple Sclerosis Clinic).

Rachel brings a collaborative mindset, analytical nature, and genuine enthusiasm to the team. She is passionate about advocating for health care that is person-centred, equitable, sustainable, culturally safe, and effective without compromising quality of care or accessibility. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys travelling (particularly, taking pictures and videos!), yoga, walks, and spending time with her loved ones.

Rachel is a second-generation settler of Korean ancestry and respectfully acknowledges that her place of work is within the ancestral, traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
